the best movie for me last year was eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. it stood out from the mindless horror drivel and even worst laugh-a-minute cheap pot shot comedies that seem to be churned out at a freakishly fast pace every year. for this year, hand's down, is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. tim burton did for me what the jackson brothers did for fans of the Lord of the Ring books. before i go on, i just need to point out an glaringly obvious observation. if anna wintour, editor in chief of Vogue.... reproduced with the King of Pop.... mr wonka would be the product. those who've already caught the show most probably would have thought wonka extremely odd, i thought he was overtly eccentric to the point that i found myself wishing he would be less asexual and just more normal. but what took the cake were the oompa loompas. that old indian face, the potbelly strained in latex jumpsuits and that weird high-pitched voice. i don't know anything more bizarre than this. but overall, tim burton could do no wrong in my eyes. mr dahl would wholly approve of burton's brave and bold stab at one of my, and i bet a lot of people's, favourite childhood book. that was one shiok 2 hour legal acid trip. on the other hand, somebody didn't quite enjoy the movie as i did. [and i've found the people who didn't enjoy it were ones who didn't read the book.] here's an insight of the movie from zaihan's point of view, from his blog. "On a lighter note, we went to go watch Willy Wonka today, I didn't like it. Couldn't help but feel like the Oompaloompa represents cheap labour, the squirrels represents child labour, the chocolate factory represents a ruthless MNC and when Willy fired all his staff it represented the great depression or companies outsourcing to hire cheaper labour( Oompaloompa & squirrels). If any of that were true, my hats go off to Mr Rold Dahl. But still, I don't like the movie . It's like asking a Danielle Steele fan to like Lord Of The Ring."
