writing this as i eat and watch tv and chat. days have been jampacked with i honestly don't know what. the hours fly by and fatigue seeps into them old bones. these days seem welded together so brace yourselves for a little disjointedness. today was justin's star wars treat and while i was initially bored, the pace of the show picked itself up and got me leaning forward; well, largely to avoid the boy geek who kept shoving his knees against my seat until i had to turn round and get snarky with him, but also because what happened in the last 45 mins kept me on edge. now hayden christiansen is without doubt cute, in the pretty boy way but man, did his sex appeal grab me by the loins when he was christianed Darth Vader and onwards. however, watching him actually don the proper Vader getup after being burnt to a crisp struck me with awe and horror. in fact, it's akin to seeing an ex with a new but homely girlfriend. the awe of him being able to bed something bearing an uncanny resemblance to our simian brothers and the horror of her dress sense/teeth/you name it, she's got it. and homely being, of course, another word for unattractive. and cut back to two days ago. enter stage causeway point. we were there at the courts outlet to get a spanking new microwave. allow me to correct myself. i mean our first microwave. in all my 19 years, my only interractions with microwaves have only been limited to 7-11 outlets because i've never had one at any of my homes. reason being my mother is very convinced they would explode at some point or other. not only that, she also thinks if you stick your hand in to retrieve your food right after it's done, you'll nuke the life out of your hand. this phobia of technology and understanding, it has posed no inconvenience to her, very simply because she has never been exposed to the wonders of it. whereas i, her significantly tech savvy child, has been bemoaning the absence of one in the household because very simply, it's a pain to wait for food to thaw. one small leap in improving the quality of my life, one big step for my mother. she finally agreed to one rather sportingly and while there wasn't exactly a mindboggling array to choose from, she still had her reservations and my impatience to get one and go wasn't exactly helping. in came a saleslady about my mother's age. she started hardselling a particular model on sale that came with a grill function. my intuition's warning bells started going off. she was impatient and constantly scanned the vicinity for other potential customers who, perhaps, wouldn't rain questions on her, which is something anybody could figure is within her job requirement to answer to the customer's understanding and satisfaction. i kept my contact with her to a minimum and bore holes into her with my eyes, to which she inevitably looked away. the middle-aged auntie may not have seen through her in her bid to buy something her daughter asked for but she couldn't fool me nor zaihan, as i found out later. as if displaying her displeasure with my mother's incessant enquiries openly wasn't enough, she had to push it with me and zaihan. we were lingering around the area while my folks were checking out other appliances, she stood together with two other ladies of her age, one of which stared hard at me for reasons unbeknownst until i had to counter the stares with some of my own til she looked away. it isn't in me to eavesdrop on conversations of strangers but this one, i overheard, even though i wish i didn't. they were obviously talking about the difference in our skin colours, the distinction in race. what probably added fuel to the fire were our little displays of affection and the obvious fact that my parents didn't mind and even asked his opinions. it is such subtle but apparent acts of bigotry that makes it increasingly hard to hold back on lashing out on such openly biased, narrow minded individuals. but on a lighter note, i got me a mini ipod on a whim. while i do not like to flaunt purchases here as do some other bloggers, i have to know if any of you reading this owns one too and if so, have you encountered any problems? because it is to my knowledge that the original ipods have been known to hang. before i go, happy birthday to franity and june, the shopaholic with the unfalteringly cheerful disposition and the class loudhailer.
